Alcon Expands Operations In Cabell County

Alcon, a company that builds lenses for people who need cataract surgery, is expanding its operations in Cabell County.

Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced Thursday that the Switzerland-based company is making an $81 million investment in its existing operations. That is expected to create 75 new high-paying jobs and will bring the company’s West Virginia payroll to nearly 700.

Alcon manufactures intraocular lenses and intraocular lens delivery systems used in cataract and vision correction procedures worldwide.

“We’re proud that Alcon is part of the family, and we’re pleased to let everyone in this area know you’re going to build a world class career right here in West Virginia,” Morrisey said.

Alcon’s expansion will strengthen the company’s production capacity and further solidify West Virginia’s presence in the life sciences and advanced manufacturing sectors, according to a press release from the governor’s office.

“For decades, Alcon has shown that a global leader can find great success right here in the Mountain State,” Morrisey said. “This expansion demonstrates that West Virginia isn’t just a place to do business, but that it’s one of the best places in the world for a global leader to thrive.”

The new positions are projected to pay an average salary of $80,000 per year.

Since October, more than $10.8 billion in private investment along with more than 9,675 projected jobs have been announced statewide. Including additional federal commitments, total investment exceeds $12.3 billion, supporting more than 10,675 projected jobs.

“These are careers that support families and strengthen communities,” Morrisey said. “We are committed to creating an environment where companies can rely upon a skilled workforce, predictable policy, reliable infrastructure, and a pro-growth mindset. West Virginia is delivering on each of those fundamentals.”

Alcon has been operating in West Virginia for more than 35 years. They have already begun construction on the new expansion.
